Polka Doodles

Polka Doodles have a challenge this week to make a "shaped card" and I opted to make a Japanese lantern for our great friend Chris who will be 60 at the end of the month and who has a penchant for all things Japanese.
I made a lantern once before, cutting all the elements by hand but I cut this one on the Cricut, having got to better grips with Cricut Studio.  I welded rectangles and circles to cut the basic shape and then glued the two sides together at the handle so that it opens from the top.  My main background paper is from Websters Pages and was a gift from best matey, Julie. It is stunning double-sided paper and I was sad to have lost so much of the front edge where most of the decoration is.  I did, however use a bit of the reverse side of the edge to decoupage my lanterns and the card looks better for it.
I stamped the Japanese text - I have no idea what it says - using part of another stamp by WS Designs.   The image is a silhouette I bought from Lakeland years ago and the accent papers are DCWV.  Numbers are Cricut-cut and I dry embossed lines across the back of the card to give it a more paper-lantern feel.

Well done on using your cricut! Although I thought at first you used it for the silhouette, too. Love it!
